Please bring the following music:

December 2015 Members’ Update

32280192_sIt’s the most wonderful time of the year (and the busiest!) for the choir as we battle colds and weather to enjoy our annual Christmas music indulgence.

We really enjoyed today’s rousing Rotary Carol Concert graced also by the wonderful young talent of Sophie Luc and Nicole Dickie.

After a night off, we need to prepare in earnest for our Christmas sell-out concert at the Royal Conservatoire on the 22nd December.

Some things to note over December:

  • Links (including separate part midi links for Carols for Choirs) are on the current links page.
  • 13th Dec rehearsal  – as the men did particularly well at the Rotary concert we will not have a separate men-only rehearsal from 7-7.30. Everyone should attend at 7.00 please
  • 13th December – there will be choir committee meeting at 6pm
  • 20th Dec – There is a rehearsal
  • 22nd December Rehearsal at the RCS.
    • The Choir bus, for those who have booked already, will leave from St Brides Centre Fallside Road at 2.30 pm.
    • Everyone else should arrive at the RCS, to be seated by 3.00 for the pre-concert rehearsal.
    • We are having a ‘Christmas Jumper’ rehearsal again with £2 per jumper (or other suitable Christmas attire -no tiaras please) for charity.
    • The choir ‘Fan Club’ bus, for those who have booked already, will leave Fallside road at 18.30 pm
  • 27th December and 3rd January – no rehearsals

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

We can’t wait to share many well beloved and exciting new musical treats with those lucky enough to have got their tickets early this year. Our annual Christmas spectacular, with special guests this year of the Gorgie Salvation Army Band and Choral Group Cantabile, is officially a sell-out already! Contact the Royal Conservatoire or choir members for news of any returned tickets.

Making more music! – our resolution for 2015

A very happy and musical 2015 to all our members and friends!

We are looking forward to lots of lovely new music when the session begins, on 11th January at 7 pm and to the regular singing exercise that helps offset winter indulgences and chase away those coughs and colds.

It will also be great to catch up with old friends and, in this season of new beginnings, to make a point of getting to know someone we didn’t know so well before.

Our choir Ceilidh Supper Evening on the 31st January will be another excellent opportunity to bring friends and family and to help raise funds for the work of the choir .

Members should look out the following pieces of music for the 11th:

  • Keep the Home Fires Burning,
  • Where Ever You Are (Paul Mealor),
  • Lord of all Hopefulness,
  • The Gift of Music (John Rutter)
  • Love Divine (Howard Goodall)

Committee members should also note that the Committee will meet on the 11th at 6pm.

Come, celebrate, it’s an anniversary year!

15th AnniversaryThey say time flies when you are having fun, but who could believe that this is our 15th anniversary year!

15 years of fantastic music  and 15 years of friendship together are truly something to celebrate!.

1999 – 2014 has seen the choir go from strength to strength under the direction of Mark Donnelly and we are looking forward to an exciting new season with more wonderful music.

So

  • warm up those vocal cords in the shower
  • move all the music still sitting in your concert folder from last year
  • and chase away the end of summer blues with the thought that the new choir season starts on 24th August. (Note, this is a week earlier than what we had previously planned because of the Scarecrow Festival Concert in early September).

Music to bring on the 24th is listed below (rehearsal links to some pieces can be found on the current links page)

  • If the Way Be Full of Trial
  • Non Nobis
  • Cantique de Jean Rancine
  • a Pensiero
  • Merry Widow Waltz
  • (Ladies only) Nun’s Chorus and Poor Wandering One

    • concert at 7 pm (choir arrival time TBC, please check later for more news).
    • the children from St Andrew’s School are arriving at 5pm. They won’t have eaten and are singing with us at 7pm. We need your help to ensure they feel welcomed by the Bothwell community. Donations of sandwiches, cakes etc are needed. We can access the Church cafe from 4.30 that day, so it would be very much appreciated if donations could be brought to the Church Centre cafe at 4.30pm just ahead of the children’s arrival. Please don’t come early as the cafe staff will not be able to receive goods on our behalf.
  • Saturday 1st February: we anticipate having a social event with supper, a quiz and raffle. The cost per person will be announced on the 19th. Members are asked to indicate their interest to attend on the 19th (and how many friends and family would come too). If you can’t make the 19th, please email through the contact us section of the website. We are also looking to members to help provide raffle prizes  (those unwanted Christmas gifts or the wine, you now can’t drink after your New Year’s resolution, might have a good home after all).
