‘Christmas present’ to Yorkhill

We are delighted that our 2014 Christmas Concert has enabled us to donate £800 to support the work of the Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

The charity has special significant for one of our special guests at the concert, X-factor star Nicholas McDonald, pictured here with two pupils from Craigholme School: Suzanne Murphy, soprano soloist at the concert and Lucy Welsh, a member of the Grace Notes vocal ensemble,  who also sang at the concert, together with Anne Laird, our Choir Secretary and Aileen McConnell from the charity.

 

Warm up January with a Ceilidh and a chat

boogie woogieAs part of our fundraising for 2015, the Choir is hosting a Ceilidh Supper Night.

Please bring your family and friends to what will be a lovely informal night,

supported by the excellent strains of local players, Jim Carson and his band, a fish supper, raffle and prizes.

Charity ‘Christmas Jumper’ Rehearsal

It's Christmas!We are looking forward to our most sparkly rehearsal yet – this year, ahead of our sell-out Christmas Concert the rehearsal will be festooned with Christmas Jumpers.

Choir members will be wearing their Christmas Jumpers, (or for those too posh to have one -Santa hats, tinsel, battery lights, or strings of baubles) and donating a minimum of £2 each to support our favourite charities.

Our annual concert with the Uddingston Rotary Club is a lovely chance to pause and relish the moment, while supporting the valuable work for our community of St Andrew’s Hospice.

NO ADMITTANCE TO THE BUILDING WILL BE PERMITTED WITHOUT A VALID CONCERT TICKET, GOLDEN TICKET, OR PERFORMER’S TICKET.

This opportunity to meet and greet Nicholas will be held between 6 and 7 pm before the Christmas Concert itself. It is a ticket only event. A limited number of tickets are being sold.

Tickets at £10 each, can be requested by using the online form below, before end Friday 19th December, subject to availability.

Each ticket holder will have a few minutes with Nicholas and the opportunity to take a photograph if they wish. Tickets are divided into two time periods: 6.00-6.30 and 6.30 -7.00, with admission possible between 6.00-6.20 and 6.30-6.50 respectively. Ticket holders holding 6.00-6.30 tickets must leave by 6.30. The event will close promptly at 7.00 and only those attendees already holding concert tickets can remain in the building.

Please note that the choir ticket manager will contact you on receipt of your form submission. Tickets will be emailed. Payment for tickets (£10 each) in cash will be taken on the door. Admission without both a ticket valid for the admission time and payment will be refused. Children under 16 must be supervised by an accompanying adult. Only the ticket holder (and where necessary a single accompanying adult) will be admitted. Supporting our forces and their families

Choir members and their friends are encouraged to lend their support to the SSAFA ‘Come and Sing‘ event being held on Saturday 15th November in Renfield St Stephen’s Church (260 Bath Street, Glasgow G24JP). The event will present an opportunity to enjoy singing works such as Faure’s Requiem, Cantique de Jean Racine and a vocal version of Pavane, while helping to support the important work of this charity.

On the day, sign-in of those who have been registered ahead (see below) is at 09.30 with rehearsal from 10.00 and performance at 19.00. Audience tickets are £10 and are available on the door.

Participation fee is £18 (£15 student/senior citizen) plus £2 for score hire, if required. Dress code is black skirt / trousers and a coloured top.

Individual registration is required ahead (by completing and posting the attached form (page1ssfaform page2ssfaform), together with a cheque for the relevant fee +/- score hire fee, payable to SSAFA Glasgow) .

Scarecrow Fesitval Gala Concert 2014

The Bothwell Scarecrow Festival Gala Concert is to be hosted by our own Mark Donnelly and will feature solo performances from young musicians who are already acknowledged as rising stars in their field.

First winner of Choir sponsored Trophy

Scarlett Morris Trophy WinnerThe choir is delighted to learn that Scarlett Morris, a P7 pupil at St Bride’s Primary School is the first winner of the Trophy for Musical Excellence that was created by the school through sponsorship provided by the choir.

Scarlett is working on her grade 3 piano and also plays the flute.
